Dear friends,

I’ve loved Wednesday evenings in June and the Table Talks we have shared together. It has been a gift to eat delicious food prepared by Jim Barry, a joy to gather around tables with old and new friends to talk about things that matter. And it’s been a treat to have conversations with many of you about race and conciliation (with Beth Wee); affirming, including, welcoming LGBTQ+ people (with Jim Barry); climate change (with Jim Wee). Tomorrow evening we have our last evening in this June series and will explore what it means to be good citizens with Barbara Artuso.

These conversations are just the beginning! July will include a couple of very informal opportunities for more conversation.

  • Thursday, July 7 Jim Barry and I will be at Acorn (15 Henry Thomas Dr in City Park, connected to the children’s museum) from 10am-12pm. Drop by, grab a cup of coffee or snack, and continue the conversation about welcoming LGBTQ+ people in the church.

  • Tuesday, July 12 Jim Wee and I will be at PJ’s (5555 Canal Blvd.) from 3-5pm. Drop by any time during those two hours to continue the conversation about climate change over a cup of coffee or other beverage.

You don’t need to have been at a Wednesday evening event to join us. Just bring an open mind and willing spirit and we will all learn from each other.

Also, in response to last week’s Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade, we will schedule an evening Table Talk around the issue of abortion, which will be led by Karen Hazlaris and myself. We don’t know a date yet, but will share it as soon as we do.

It is a privilege to be a pastor in a congregation committed to studying, reasoning, praying together – all in love and with a commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Kim
