When it comes time to talk about financial giving and things like the budget many churches struggle with the same thing:  connecting our money with our ministry.

We have heard time and again how people don’t want to give to things like the electric bill.  It’s hard to look at an electric bill and see what God is doing.

This year our Stewardship Team is lifting up some of the incredible things that God is doing through our ministries and how our financial giving makes those ministries possible.

Take for example the baptism we shared recently.  There is so much that goes into this Sacrament!

  • The water in the baptismal font is paid for through our water bill.
  • The special bulletins we print for the family are the copier bill and paper expense.
  • The special cloth and candle, the Certificate of Baptism, and the Bible from the congregation are all paid for out of our Operating Budget.
  • The time Pastor Katie spends preparing all these things and organizing with the family are a part of her salary.
  • All of the other expenses that go into running a regular worship.

And we haven’t even gotten to the electric bill yet!  The electric bill, that pays for the lights to be on so we can see clearly the baby being baptized!

Regular expenses like the electric bill aren’t usually why people give to church and they shouldn’t be.  It’s not the bill we’re giving to, it is God!  But even the electric bill is something God uses for ministry.
