As part of our outreach for the month of November, we are doing an Angel Tree for residents of Covenant House Rites of Passage who have aged out and are transitioning into independent living. (Rites of Passage is a transitional living program for older youths, ages 18 to 24. This program teaches youth essential life skills that help them live independently.)
There are twenty residents who have listed the items that they need as they transition, and in some cases, have added some special wish list items they'd love to have at some point. We have written their wishes on tags and will hang them on the Angel Tree (a four-foot tall Christmas tree) in the Grace narthex. These young adults will be happy with any assistance and are very thankful for our support, and so we encourage you to prayerfully consider how you can help. Gift cards are always a great option. (Our Chuck it in the Bucket donations for November will also be used for the purchase of gift cards.) Suggested amounts are $25 or $50, but anything you can do is much appreciated. Some residents have also expressed a need for practical items such as socks and underwear. Congregation members are invited to select a tag and remove it from the tree to purchase the item requested by a specific resident or to purchase gift cards and the Social Ministry team will match those to residents to ensure everyone receives a gift.
Once purchased, the items can be given to Sue Pundt or Mary Pauley. Mary will arrange for them to be delivered to Covenant House in time for Christmas. The Chuck it in the Bucket is also dedicated to this project and we will use the funds to purchase gift cards.
